Energy efficiency and computers?

The new reality of server co-location is that electricity is the tightest commodity going. More precious than bandwidth or floorspace.

Sun has been meeting this challenge head-on, and more power to them for the effort.

Politicians: Protecting us from Nightmares?

Greg Maldonado, an awesome contact juggler who’s blog I read, posted [this](http://people.tribe.net/gregmaldonado/blog/9854bb3e-1e1b-425d-9be4-739ea316244c) reference to a BBC story about the changing face of politics.

Frightening stuff.

Pzizz

Found this application while poking around the net…

Developed by Xeric Design on behalf of Brainwave, pzizz is a remarkable new application that combines several proven techniques to give you the most refreshing and revitalising ‘nap’ possible. We have combined Neurolinguistic Programming with enchanting music, voice, sound effects and a binaural beat to induce a wonderfully relaxed state.

A quick trial that I just did was pretty sweet. I can see this being amazing for those nights you can’t get to sleep or when you just need to unwind for a bit.

Eureka!

A banner advert for a new Sci-fi channel series caught my eye. It was ad for the Cryokennel, a device to cryogenically freeze your pets when you go on long vacations.
It gave me a chuckle and pulled me in to see the rest of the [site](http://www.scifi.com/eureka/madeineureka/). Looks like this could be a fun series. Wonder how long it’ll be before we get it up here in Canada.

World War III?

Lately the world unrest has really had me very concerned. I hadn’t, until [today](http://digg.com/world_news/Newt_Gingrich_Says_It_s_World_War_III) heard anyone else liken all the unrest to “World War III”. But think about it for a minute.

– the conflict around Israel is more violent that I can recall.
– North Korea is lobbing around ICBMs like they’re hackie-sacks
– The US’s attack on the middle east (No I don’t agree with the convenient “war on terror” crap. It’s just an excuse that the fear-bound US populace will bite on.)

The potential for this all to explode beyond reason is floating in the air. I just hope that those who have the power and ability to avoid something this horrific are sharing my fears. For what it’s worth, I doubt Dubya is. 🙁

Toronto International Circus Festival

Kim and I checked out the [Toronto International Circus Festival](http://www.tocircusfestival.com/) last night. Lotsa fun and only running until 6pm on July 16th in the distillery district. If you’re looking for something to do on Sunday, I highly recommend this event. Try to catch Carnival Electro, a creation of some friends of mine. Funny and quite entertaining.

Fresh! You bet!!!

[Kim](http ://www.thinker.ca/~kim/blog/) and I finally got around to trying a new veggie restaurant in the area called [Fresh](www.juiceforlife.com) and I have to say that I’m disappointed in not checking it out sooner. The menu is HUGE, all veggie, and delicious. Best of all there is one (two in Toronto currently) about a 15 minute walk away. We definitely aren’t the 1st to find this place, it’s hopping busy.

We’ve been there twice in the last week and I expect to be there again soon. At between $30 and $40 for 2 for dinner, it’s not too hard on the pocketbook and worth every penny for the fresh and delish’ food. BTW, for those who fancy a glass of wine with dinner/lunch (breakfast? 🙂 ) they allow you to bring your own bottle to enjoy for a $10 corkage fee. (No you can’t take anything you don’t drink home. This is Ontario afterall.)

Mac Ad Parodies

I love Apple’s Mac ads, but this [parody](http://www.bestweekever.tv/2006/07/07/bwe-mac-ads/) is pretty darned funny too.

Enjoy!

Nokia 6682

I got a Nokia 6682 a week or so ago and have since been playing with it, trying to get a feel for it’s features. I have to say, this is one pretty nifty phone.

In the small package there is a cell phone (of course), video camera, still camera with flash, mp3 player, but best of all, the phone is built on the symbian platform and comes with a pile of very cool software. Of my favorites are voicesignal, quickoffice and an adobe pdf reader.

Adobe, you’re likely familiar with. Quickoffice allows you to create, read and/or edit MS office documents on your phone(!!!) – very cool. The coolest piece of software that came with the phone is, in my opinion, voicesignal. Voicesignal builds an Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system into your phone. No more training your phone with your voice, Voicesignal just understands your voice “out of the box”. Pretty cool.

I took some pics with the phone over the weekend, but I have yet to transfer them off. I’ll post some here once I do.

Oh, and the absolutely best thing about this phone? It sync’s seamlessly with my Macbookpro. Sweet!

Anyone wanna give me a Nokia 770 to play with?!

Still alive… really :)

Been pretty quiet around here lately… well, I’ve been busy 😉

Here’s an article that I found interesting, maybe you will to…
